Definitions & supporting evidence

What is included in this sample?

121 completed regular-season games through Week 8. Home and road views exclude neutral venues.

Home and Road exclude all neutral games. Neutral games remain in All venues. The latest ten eligible games appear in each team’s form guide; team summaries use the entire selected period. Empty samples show no records.

Filters recompute descriptive statistics only. Model ratings, selections, staking and published previews are not part of this data file.

How is time leading measured?

Elapsed game-clock time, not possession time or wall-clock time. Both teams start tied at 0–0. A scoring play’s clock is its start, so the new score takes effect at the following recorded game clock. Conversions take effect at their own stopped clock. The original scoring descriptions and play IDs remain available in each game’s evidence.

Regulation contributes 3,600 seconds. Overtime contributes only the portion actually played, up to ten minutes for this regular-season sample. A walk-off score adds no leading time. The regulation-only switch removes OT from time statistics; it does not regrade final results. Leading + trailing + tied always equals the selected elapsed time.

What counts as a touchdown?

Accepted six-point scoring events with a touchdown flag and an identified scorer. Rushing, receiving and return/recovery touchdowns are included. Passing a TD does not make the passer a scorer. PATs and two-point conversions are excluded.

Game first means the first TD by either team, even if field goals came earlier. Team first means that team’s first TD. TD games counts distinct games with one or more touchdowns, not total touchdowns. Only scorers appear in this table; zero-TD players need an appearance dataset to be included reliably.

These are descriptive matchup statistics, not assessed betting recommendations. Player appearances, injuries and timestamped prop prices are not supplied.

Historical lines, ties and pushes

Spread and total come from the PBP’s historical line fields. The home handicap is the negative of spread_line; an away handicap has the opposite sign. ATS margin = team points − opponent points + team handicap. O/U margin = combined final points − total line. Final scores include overtime.

Zero adjusted margin is a push. Game ties remain ties. Missing lines are excluded from ATS/O/U denominators. No half-win credit is assigned. Win/cover-and-total tables count observed combinations and show total pushes separately.

Bookmaker, quote time, price and settlement terms are absent. These are reference-line results, not a placed-bet ledger, current offers or ROI. PASS and UNRATED model statuses are not inferred.

Periods, opposition and next-game tables

Period net points are scored minus conceded within that period. Period win % is strict period wins ÷ eligible games; equal scores are not wins. With OT enabled, H2 and Q4 include OT to match the magazine. The OT column shows the overtime-only sample separately and must not be added again to H2/Q4.

Opposition groups are mutually exclusive: division, same conference outside the division, and other conference. Division flags are checked against the source. Opponents’ next-game results use the next observed game after the encounter, skip byes, and never cross the selected week cutoff. Unobserved outcomes stay missing; no causal inference is implied.
