Utah + Dunhill Recap: Seven Plays, No Return

Black Desert Resort + St Andrews, Carnoustie, Kingsbarns · October 1-4, 2026 | Current-week guide: October 8-11

Austin Smotherman won in Utah. Adrian Meronk won at St Andrews. Our seven staked plays returned nothing: -2.5u at the Bank of Utah Championship and -1.5u at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Casey Jarvis finished T2 from the watchlist, but that contributes no profit to the staked card.

E/W plays assume 1/5 odds, 5 places. Each 0.5u E/W stake is 0.25u win plus 0.25u place. Prices and stakes below are those published before the events.

Bank of Utah: Kohles T13, Hoey T10

1Kohles, Ben$66WIN 1.0uT13✗
2Power, Seamus$138E/W 0.5uT21✗
3Skinns, David$351E/W 0.5uCUT✗
4Hoey, Rico$63E/W 0.5uT10✗

Smotherman finished at 26-under, two clear of Doug Ghim. Our Best Bet, Ben Kohles at $66, finished T13. Seamus Power was T21, David Skinns missed the cut and Rico Hoey finished T10. None reached the payout required by the market we backed. Kohles carried the largest published win edge on the card at +4.5 percentage points. That made him the clear selection before the event; it does not turn a T13 finish into evidence that the price was right. The 1.0u WIN stake is a full loss. Hoey was the closest of the each-way selections, but T10 is outside the stated five places. The three 0.5u each-way plays each lost their full stake. Utah P/L: -2.5u.

Dunhill Links: three each-way losses

#PlayerOddsEdgeFinishResult
1Voke, Nick$501E/W 0.5uT51✗
2Perez, Victor$54E/W 0.5uT30✗
3Dantorp, Jens$401E/W 0.5uCUT✗

Meronk finished at 20-under, two ahead of Casey Jarvis and Niklas Norgaard. Our three each-way selections were Nick Voke T51, Victor Perez T30 and Jens Dantorp CUT. Each lost 0.5u. Dunhill P/L: -1.5u. The $501 Voke price offered a large potential return, but his +1.6pp published win edge did not translate into a place finish. All three selections stayed on the same half-unit each-way stake. This week there was no place return to soften the loss.

Watchlist: Jarvis T2, no staked profit

Jarvis was listed at $81 with a +0.7pp win edge and finished T2. JC Ritchie, also on the Dunhill watchlist, finished T9. Jarvis is a top-five watchlist hit; Ritchie is a top-ten finish. Neither was staked. There were no top-five finishes among the published Utah watchlist. We keep these outcomes visible, but the week remains -4.0u. A watchlist finish cannot be added to the return from bets that were actually selected.

What carries forward

The useful distinction this week is between a player performing reasonably and a bet paying. Hoey T10 and Kohles T13 belong in the form review. Neither returned money under the published markets. There is no reason to widen the place terms after seeing the results, or to promote Jarvis into the staked card retrospectively. Any change to the selection rules needs to be tested over the full set of cards, with the same prices and settlement terms applied throughout.

Season ledger: reconciliation in progress

The nine earlier figures below are the previously published ledger, not a restated or fully reconciled account. Their published balance was +17.05u. The earlier each-way calculations used the wrong decimal conversion for the place leg, and the ledger also contains non-starter losses that need their settlement treatment checked. A revised season total is therefore withheld until that reconciliation is complete. This week's verified -4.0u is unaffected: all seven selections started and none qualified for a return.

October 8-11: Japan and Spain

The schedule moves to the Baycurrent Classic at Yokohama Country Club in Japan and the Open de España at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, both October 8-11. Both events are underway as this edition is prepared on October 8. No new staked card is being issued for either event in this edition. The existing model is built for pre-tournament comparisons; running it after play has started would not produce a valid pre-event betting recommendation. At Yokohama, the field plays four rounds with no cut. That changes how a top-ten finish should be judged against a full-field event. In Madrid, the venue and confirmed starters are the basis for the next form review. Current-week stakes from this edition: 0.0u. No later result will be backfilled into a pre-event card.
